It all started with an old farmhouse in Schoharie county, a father who worked with
design engineers and a mother who was a seamstress & interior decorator. Growing up surrounded by self-sufficient
farmers provided woodworking and construction skills. Taking college level studies in physics, math and earth
sciences as well as summer work as a union plumber/pipe-fitter gave me the confidence to take on the complete restoration,
remodeling and mechanical systems upgrading of the "family homestead" (1972-74). Buying and renovating a 4-unit
apartment building was next (1975-77).

It was in a discussion with my father regarding the energy crisis,
rising costs and ways to achieve energy savings, when he handed me a magazine with articles on infrared photography and
on insulations. That was February 1977 and by June, I had incorporated an energy conservation business named in honor
of my father- R.J. McLagan. see Picture

With the purchase of a Hughes Probeye, one of the first portable hand-held infrared
viewers, I not only checked the work of my own crews but also was hired by homeowners who had work done previously by
others. Apartment complexes (Twin Lakes), municipalities (city of Albany-Corning Homes) and NYS OGS (Ogdensburgh
facility) required my services for diagnosing insulation deficiencies. I also assisted in finding leaks and moisture
problems in numerous flat roof applications.
